Wide Awake πŸ‘€

Prologue: One fine foggy November night, I lay awake in my bed, trying hard to fall asleep…

I heard a loud voice in my head,

Which told me not to sleep.

It kept me up all night in bed,

I even tried to count the sheep.

To my dismay, it didn’t work,

So I decided to read a book.

I got out of bed to turn on the lights,

when I saw a shadow lurk.

I was petrified and felt a sense of chill,

as my heart began to race.

I froze with fear right where I stood,

as I watched a shadow encase.

Out my window as the silhouette approached,

I saw a man close in.

He wore what looked like a dark hoodie,

and his beard dropped below his chin.

He took a long look inside,

scanned every inch of my room,

I wondered what he was trying to find,

or perhaps it was whom?

His breath began to fog up the glass,

and his stare fell onto me,

I let in a big gulp and froze,

As I stood there helplessly.

He slowly stepped back with a puzzled look,

and started walking out of my sight.

I watched in silence as his shadow vanished,

into the foggy November night.

I wanted to make sure he was gone,

make sure he wasn’t hiding out somewhere.

But instead I bolted to close the drapes,

for to look out I did not dare.

I turned on the lights,

and double checked every lock.

Tried to calm myself to sleep,

but was still stuck in a great deal of shock.

And of course I couldn’t sleep at all

as I was trembling with fear.

I understood my subconscious kept me up,

to warn me some danger was near.

It was probably just some loner on the street,

Or since it was Halloween that night,

it could’ve been someone out for trick or treat,

My thoughts were running endlessly,

I had to find a way for it to cease.

So I told myself the trick or treat theory,

and that helped me find some peace.

I curled up in my bed, and decided

not to think of that anymore.

That’s when I suddenly remembered,

that I lived on the fifteenth floor…
